Installation
This page covers installing, updating, and removing Sesame Link. To get running in a few minutes, follow the Quickstart instead.
Install
Section titled “Install”Install and sign in to the CLI for each runtime you want to use on this computer:
Claude Code CLI,
Codex CLI, or Pi CLI. The Claude and Codex desktop apps do not satisfy
these requirements. The CLI command (claude, codex, or pi) must be available on PATH.
Claude Code and Pi require tmux 3.4 or newer.
curl -fsSL https://storage.googleapis.com/sesame-link/install.sh | shcurl -fsSL https://storage.googleapis.com/sesame-link/install.sh | SESAME_LINK_ENVIRONMENT=staging shThe installer checks that at least one runtime is installed, verifies the download, and puts
sesame-link in ~/.local/bin. If that folder isn’t on your PATH, it prints the line to add to
your shell profile.
When it finishes, sign in with sesame-link auth login, then open
macOS releases are signed by Sesame and notarized by Apple. Linux releases are unsigned preview builds.
The staging install command points a new installation at staging. A computer already signed in to
production stays on production; to switch it, run sesame-link unpair, then
sesame-link doctor --environment staging.
To install a particular release, set SESAME_LINK_VERSION:
curl -fsSL https://storage.googleapis.com/sesame-link/install.sh | SESAME_LINK_VERSION=v0.1.22 shUpdate
Section titled “Update”sesame-link status tells you when a newer release is out. To install it:
sesame-link updateupdate shows what the release changes and asks before installing it. If Sesame Link is running,
it then offers to restart it so the new version takes over; your sessions keep running. Add
--yes --restart to answer both questions in advance. The Changelog lists
every release.
To check for new releases, status, start, and restart download the release channel’s latest
version number. The check sends nothing about you, your computer, or your sessions. To turn it
off, set SESAME_LINK_NO_UPDATE_CHECK=1 in your environment.
Update from the web client
Section titled “Update from the web client”In the web client, select the computer icon at the bottom of the session list. When a newer release is out, the computer’s card offers Update, and you choose when Sesame Link restarts. The card shows the update’s progress until Sesame Link is back on the new release. Updates from the web client are on by default. To turn them off, or back on:
sesame-link config remote-update off # or onUninstall
Section titled “Uninstall”End your sessions first; once Sesame Link is gone, sessions still running can no longer reach your clients, and running Codex turns end. Then run:
sesame-link uninstallThis stops Sesame Link and Codex, removes the computer from your Sesame account, and deletes the
sesame-link program. Your projects, and your Claude Code, Codex, and Pi conversations, stay where they
are.
Sesame Link’s own files stay too: session history, logs, and settings. So does the Sesame login
saved on this computer; to sign it out, run sesame-link auth logout before uninstalling. To
delete the files afterwards:
rm -rf ~/.local/state/sesame-link ~/.local/share/sesame-link ~/.config/sesame-linkrm -f ~/.claude/commands/open-sesame.md
