Quickstart
This guide gets you from install to your first session in a few minutes. By the end, Sesame Link will be running on your computer, and you’ll have a session you can reach from a browser or your phone.
Before you begin
Section titled “Before you begin”You need:
- A Sesame account. If you don’t have one yet, register at app.sesame.com/login. You sign in with it everywhere; Sesame Link has no account of its own.
- macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel), or x86-64 Linux with glibc 2.31 or newer (preview).
- At least one coding runtime, installed and signed in:
Claude Code CLI (claude), plus tmux 3.4 or newer. On macOS, install tmux with brew install tmux.
Codex CLI (codex), signed in with codex login. Codex support is a preview.
Pi CLI, signed in to a provider, plus tmux 3.4 or newer. Pi support is a best-effort preview.
The runtime’s CLI command must be available on PATH on the computer running Sesame Link. The Claude and Codex desktop apps do not satisfy these requirements.
Step 1: Install Sesame Link
Section titled “Step 1: Install Sesame Link”curl -fsSL https://storage.googleapis.com/sesame-link/install.sh | shcurl -fsSL https://storage.googleapis.com/sesame-link/install.sh | SESAME_LINK_ENVIRONMENT=staging shTo confirm it worked, run sesame-link --version. If your shell can’t find sesame-link, add
~/.local/bin to your PATH; the installer prints the line to add.
Step 2: Sign in and start Sesame Link
Section titled “Step 2: Sign in and start Sesame Link”This is the staging deployment, and the install command above has already pointed this computer at
staging. A computer already signed in to production stays on production, and the installer says
so. To switch it, run sesame-link unpair, then sesame-link doctor --environment staging.
Change to the folder you want new sessions to open in, then sign in:
cd ~/codesesame-link auth loginYour browser opens. Sign in with your Sesame account and enter the code your terminal shows. Approve only a request you started yourself.
Back in the terminal, Sesame Link starts in the background and connects this computer. The folder you signed in from becomes the default for new sessions.
Step 3: Check that it’s running
Section titled “Step 3: Check that it’s running”sesame-link statusThe first line reads Connected when your clients can reach this computer. If it says anything else, the report ends with the command to run next. See Troubleshooting for more.
Step 4: Open the web client
Section titled “Step 4: Open the web client”Once you approve the code, the browser continues into the web client, already signed in. If it asks you to sign in again, choose Sign in with Sesame.
To reach your sessions from a phone or another computer, open sesame-link on its own whenever you need this address again.
Step 5: Start your first session
Section titled “Step 5: Start your first session”-
Select New session.
-
Choose a runtime and a folder on your computer.
-
Select Create session, then type your first message.
The session runs on your computer, in the folder you chose. Follow it here, or open it from any other client signed in with your Sesame account.
