Claude Code

Each Claude Code session Sesame Link starts runs in its own terminal session (tmux) on your computer. You can attach to it at any time and see exactly what Claude shows, and every session you start from the terminal also appears in your other clients.

  • Claude Code CLI (claude), installed and signed in on the computer running Sesame Link, with claude available on PATH.
  • tmux 3.4 or newer. On macOS, install it with brew install tmux.

The Claude desktop app does not satisfy the CLI requirement. Run claude --version in your terminal to check that the CLI is available.

Terminal window
sesame-link claude

This starts Claude Code in the current folder and attaches your terminal to it. Use --model, --effort, and --permission-mode to configure the session, and put text after -- to send it as the first message:

Terminal window
sesame-link claude --model opus -- "Summarize the failing tests"

Install the /open-sesame command for Claude Code once:

Terminal window
sesame-link install-claude-command

Then run /open-sesame inside a Claude Code session you started with plain claude. Claude Code exits, and the same conversation continues as a Sesame Link session you can reach from your other clients.

If you’re in a Herdr pane, the conversation stays in that pane. See Herdr.

Terminal window
sesame-link sessions # list sessions and pick one to attach to
sesame-link sessions attach <id-or-name> # attach to a session by name or ID

Name a session by its exact name, or by the first four or more characters of its ID.

To leave a session without ending it, detach with Ctrl-b then d, or close the terminal window. The session keeps running, and you can attach again later.

Terminal window
sesame-link sessions delete <id-or-name>

This closes the session’s terminal and removes it from Sesame Link. The conversation stays in Claude Code’s history, so claude --resume can still pick it up.

Sessions use Claude Code’s default configuration in ~/.claude, and the account signed in there. To use another configuration directory, start Sesame Link with CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR set:

Terminal window
sesame-link stop
CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR="$HOME/.claude-work" sesame-link start

New sessions use that directory, and sesame-link restart keeps it. A sesame-link start without it, including Start in the menu bar, goes back to ~/.claude. End your running sessions before you switch, because Sesame Link reads history only from the current directory.

Sesame Link works with whichever Claude Code version you have installed, but a few features need a recent one, such as sending a message while Claude is working. If a feature is missing, update Claude Code.
